Background
Enables heat shock protein binding activity and identical protein binding activity. Involved in several processes, including cardiac muscle cell apoptotic process; cellular response to transforming growth factor beta stimulus; and response to hypoxia. Part of apoptosome. Biomarker of brain ischemia; colon cancer; middle cerebral artery infarction; and muscular atrophy. Orthologous to human APAF1 (apoptotic peptidase activating factor 1).
